Last night Allen and Brian went to a football game, Breanna came over to visit with us. While she was over we thought it would be a great time to do our USA lesson. I thought when I started "teaching" the kids about states, and some of there facts that they would complain and not want to hear about it. I was happily surprised when they started to really get in to it, asking questions, and taking notes!! Its a lot of fun, and I am learning a lot too!! I try to do one state once a week, and so far we have gone through California, Nebraska, Kansas, Arkansas, and last night was "Iowa night!" With each state we've touched on the Louisiana Purchase, Lewis and Clark expedition, Amelia Earharts travels, the Civil war, Malcolm X and his history, and much more. Each state also has an affiliation with different Presidents and we touch on their history and things to do with them. Its a lot of fun..
The girls writing down there notes on President Hoover and years in office, because he was born in IA. |
Last night we also learned about Papa's home town of Council Bluffs, IA. We learned that Lewis and Clark stopped there during their expedition to meet with the Otoe Indians, and had a "council" in the bluffs, hence the name of the town! We also touched on the Mormon Trail and how they passed through Iowa.
we have hit on most of the mid west, but they requested the next state to be New York. So we are headed East! |
Thats it we are done for the night! |
So last Saturday I was suppose to go to the craft fair to see Uncle Warrens fantastic creations. Unfortunately I was not able to go, because I came down with a nasty, little kidney stone!! Ugh, seriously people they suck... big time!!!!!!!!!!
Anyway, luckily I had a stash of Vicodin just for such emergencies and I was doped up and able to get through it.
Sunday we all met up at Yvonnes and carved some pumpkins! It was too much fun with too many knives slinging around!
GOOD TIMES!!!
